Footballer Friday

The boys at Chelsea FC will be clad in Dolce and Gabbana for the next three years. Not too shabby. The designers were hired to create custom three piece suits and a special range of pieces for the team’s various events. They’re also redesigning Chelsea’s director’s lounge and the club’s main reception area. This is going to be GOOD.

The Italian designers have signed the three year deal with the club, meaning players such as John Terry, Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole will be dressed in exclusive suits created by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.

The blue suits are teamed with dark blue shirts, and a matching tie, while casual clothes including blue denim jeans have also been gifted (all colors representing the historic team colors). The boys will also receive a D&G carry-on travel bag to tote around all the goods they just scored.

In addition to the players receiving suits, managers, coaches and other male staff at the club will also get formal outfits while women will receive a pair of black high heels and a matching-coloured trench coat.

Player Daniel Sturridge said: “Dolce & Gabbana are top class designers, everybody knows them world-wide and it’s beneficial for the club that we have a brand on the same level as we are.”

How ’bout that vuvuzela? It seems this little horn with the big buzz is monopolizing major air time; air time that would otherwise have commentators discussing at least one of our favorite World Cup superstars.

There’s an anti-vuvuzela filter that drowns it out on your tv, a website to ban it and of course there’s an App for That too, so you can annoy others while on the go. There’s even a vuvuzela radio program. Yes, you read that correctly.

Our thoughts? We’re still amazed at how much attention this bee-sound machine has garnered. It’s deep tradition of the host country, so…well, what are you going to do? I say on with the players!

Our U.S. boys are back on the pitch today and we’re pleased to hear that our get well wishes-from-afar have reached Tim Howard (keeper). We heard he’s in top form since getting a boot to the ribcage during the England match. We came out of that one alive and must be prepared to go all out against Slovenia, one of the tiniest country to qualify in The Cup’s history, if we want to make it into the round of 16. A draw is “eeh, whatEVAH” but a win will secure our position.

Maybe if our boys find themselves in a bind, our captain (Bocanegra, left) will call for a shirts v skins match. We would surely come out on top of that one! (Onyewu, right and Mr. Dempsey below)

I’m loving all the promo leading up to the World Cup, which continues to impress. The latest (and currently our favorite) is this little Nike number that takes a player’s peek into the future prior to either making or missing a big play.

Thank you Brandy, from ‘stache media, for putting it on our radar!

Happy Friday!
