Studio Samuel Signs Lease in Ethiopia

13 days and counting. Tick. Tick. Tick. Those are the voices in my head as trip preparations continue for the kick off of Studio Samuel’s efforts on the ground in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The latest and biggest news first: the workspace lease has been signed and secured. For anyone who knows me personally, you know I’m bursting inside that this negotiation was done sight-unseen.  For a typical-Type-A, not seeing the space first was a little hard to swallow. First, for the obvious logistical purposes but also because I was absent from the thrill of the ‘house-hunting’ portion and the opp to stand in that open space as I envision where More

Esperanza Spalding’s Oscar Ring

Behind Esperanza Spalding’s Oscar Ring

Esperanza Spalding has played the White House, the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony and last night she stole the show at the Oscars while wearing the massive and fabulous agate heart knuckle ring by Loving Anvil.

We began our conversations with Esperanza’s stylist leading into the Grammys. Honored she would think of NewYorkDesigner.com, it was a big decision selecting which piece from which designer, as we have so much talent on the site. After more details came through, Loving Anvil was a sure fit and the Massive Agate Heart Knuckle Ring was the ring for such a beautiful, talented woman with such style of her own.

Now, because playing bass while donning a double-knuckled ring is no easy feat, we were just as skeptical as we were excited this ring would be worn. THEN…could it really be that she selected it for the the Oscars instead? What? No way. Yup.

There was no need for the garish for this voice to attract attention. A simple, bold double knuckled ring worn with a white, flowing gown. Millions saw and heard that for themselves when she took the stage with Louis Armstrong’s What a Wonderful World for the traditional Academy Award’s In Memoriam segment.

The ring worn by Esperanza is a one of kind and yes, she’ll be keeping it! However, our friends at Loving Anvil are featuring an exclusive collection through NewYorkDesigner.com using limited, rare stones but with the overall look and feel of the one seen on stage.
