blush

Brand: Bare Escentuals
Product: Fruit Cocktail Blush

So, when is an $18 blush a good deal? When it lasts forever!! I’ve tried drugstore blushes, I really have. I get annoyed when I hit the bottom of the pan in a month’s time. Besides, I’ve yet to come across one that I love as much as BE Fruit Cocktail. Fruit Cocktail is super scary in the jar. I’m sure many less adventurous women have reached passed it to pick up “Lovely” or “Beauty”, BE’s more subtle pink blushes. Those willing to take the risk and try Fruit Cocktail will be rewarded, however.

Applied with a light hand, Fruit Cocktail imparts the most charming flushed pink hue. I liken it to the way my cheeks look after a brisk walk in chilly weather. My cheeks glow, not glitter. The tiniest bit will do, and the color payoff is huge! Your jar will last for at least a year.

I have fair, cool-toned skin, but I’ve heard women with tanned and olive skin rave about it too. If it were pressed instead of loose it would be the perfect blush.

Brand: FLIRT!
Product: Peek-A-Blush Cheek Color in All Dolled Up

A few days ago Niko and I were sharing a mirror whilst getting ready for a party. I was obsessing about whether my new wide width cinch belt defined or emphasized my waist. Niko was wondering if she needed a different color foundation. We decided my belt was fierce and that Niko simply needed a brighter shade of blush. Niko has been favoring a bronzy shade of blush for a while now, but it occurred to me that she might look younger and fresher with a pop of color on her cheeks.

Niko is gorgeous. Think Courtney Cox. Fair skin, dark hair, and startling blue eyes. Not to mention cheekbones you could use to slice deli meat. Yeah, I’m jealous. Most girls would hate to stand next to Niko at a party. However, I can’t help but love her, and I knew she’d be smoking with just a touch of pink blush. So, I dusted some on the apples of her cheeks and along her cheekbones. I was right. She instantly looked fresher and more youthful. Lucky for me were were going to a family party with our respective spouses. It would have sucked for me if we were both single and heading for the club.

Flirt! blushes are richly pigmented and a little goes a long way. The color lasts all day. The best part about this All Dolled Up is that is has sheen , but no glitter particles, so the flush it imparts is completely natural, as if you just stepped in from the cold. At $14, the pan is a bit pricey, but if you use your Kohls Cash to purchase it, the pan then costs next to nothing. Flirt! cosmetics are available at Kohls department stores.

Brand:  Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Inspired by Carmindy

 Product:  Natural Powder Blush

Okay, let me begin by pinky swearing that I am not in any way shape or form affiliated with Sally Hansen and/or Carmindy. I promise I’m not receiving kickbacks of any kind, (not even one lousy free sample). What can I say ladies, Sally and Carmindy have got a good thing going on and I am hell bent on making sure their joint product launch is not a casualty of this awful economy. I’ve loved almost everything from this brand, and I would hate to see these products disappear from the shelves. It’s bad enough that the line is in such limited distribution, for it to vanish completely would simply be too much to bear.

As far as I’m concerned, a great shade of blush is the best way for almost any woman to look instantly rested, healthy and youthful. For pale skinned women like me, it is also the best way to keep over-zealous morticians from tagging your toe. Blush was laid to rest for a while in the nineties when brown lips and heroin-chic were the rage, but Nars brought blush back from the dead with their little blockbuster called Orgasm. These days Orgasm has become the benchmark by which all other blushes are measured. It supposedly duplicates the flush one might develop after a quick romp in an elevator. Personally, I always thought Orgasm, with its excess of glitter, was highly over-rated and unnatural looking. I did believe that if the glitter were subtracted from the equation, the coral-pink color of Nars Orgasm would be nothing short of genius.

As if they could read my very thoughts, Sally and Carmindy created their Natural Powder Blush in Cherub, and I’m in heaven. The silky formula glides on beautifully and blends effortlessly. It lasts all day long and without the glitter, it is as appropriate for the boardroom as it is for the bedroom. Also, the lack of glitter means there will be no sparkles to settle in and emphasize any fine lines that you may have. The packaging is sturdy and cute, and thankfully does not come with one of those useless plastic brushes that brands like Cover Girl and Maybelline insist on filling our landfills with. At $10.99, it’s at least half the price of Nars Orgasm. Remember, CVS runs frequent BOGOS, so if you wait until it’s on promotion, you’ll really get a steal. Furthermore, if you decide Cherub just isn’t the shade for you, there are six other lovely shades to choose from.
