Brand: Dove
Product: Damage Therapy Shine Boost Shampoo

A while ago I posted a rave review for Dove’s Shine Therapy Shampoo. Then, “poof” it was gone. It disappeared from drugstore shelves, and vanished from the Dove website. I was puzzled. After all, the bottle proclaimed it to be Dove’s “Best Formula Ever”!

Well, it seems as though Dove has revamped it’s product line, and the new “Shine Therapy” is a product called “Shine Boost”. This bottle promises 2x shinier hair. Such promises baffle me. How the hell can you measure such a thing? Just promising shinier hair is enough for me.

The good news is that it does deliver shinier hair. The bad news is that it smells like dryer sheets. I liked it, but I LOVED Shine Therapy. Luckily, though, Shine Therapy can still be found at several online outlets.

Apologies for the posting delays. We encountered a minor snafu of backend tech stuff that was way above our pretty little heads.

Subject: WTF????

Several months ago I participated in a survey of Dove products conducted by a lovely lady named Nancy. Instead of filching freebies, I spent nearly twenty minutes of prime Costco scarfing time enthusing to a very attentive Nancy about Dove products. I described myself as a lifelong user and even provided Nancy with my business card (okay, maybe I hoped I’d see some free Dove products in the future). Nancy wrote down nearly everything I said. I was undoubtedly specific about two things. I stressed that under no circumstances should the brand reformulate their iconic beauty bar or their fabulous cream oil body wash. I was certain that Nancy and I understood each other.

Apparently not. Two days ago I was hit over the head with a brick in the form of a Dove commercial. It seems Dove has betrayed me. The Cream Oil Body Wash has been reformulated. Seriously, WTF? When I think of all the crab dip, won-ton soup and bacon wrapped scallops I could have consumed in those twenty wasted minutes……

Gemma

The Dove brand has been disappointing me a lot lately. Like most women, I ADORE their Campaign for Real Beauty. Although I know that the campaign was a stroke of marketing genius and it has made the company a boatload of cash, I appreciate the sentiment behind the ads. So, I want to LOVE their products. The simple fact is that I’ve found the majority of the line mediocre at best. Sure, The classic beauty bar and the cream oil body wash are Holy Grail items for me, but the entire skin care line is a bust as far as I’m concerned. I actually found the Go Fresh line to be less exciting than watching televised bowling. The shampoos that I’ve sampled from the brand have been, well, awful. So, I honestly did not hold out much hope for Dove Shine Therapy Shampoo and Conditioner.

I picked up the Shine Therapy duo on a whim because my hair was looking a little dull and drab, and, being a mommy, my funds are better spent on stocking stuffers (’tis the season!) than a highlighting session. Sometimes, having low expectations can be a good thing. There’s few things as satisfying as thinking something will suck only to discover that it most certainly does not suck! Dove Shine Therapy shampoo and conditioner DOES NOT SUCK! Not even a little. These products are the opposite of Suck.

Dove claims that these products contain a repairing serum that repairs cuticles and gently removes buildup. I can’t speak to all that. What I can tell you is that it lathers nicely and rinses cleanly. There is a faint fragrance, but not one that anyone would likely swoon over. That’s okay by me as I don’t want the scent of my shampoo to compete with my perfume. Use of both products left my hair shiny, manageable and soft. I even think my fine hair feels thicker when I use it! Overall, they are wonderful products.

Dove Shine Therapy Shampoo and Conditioner are on sale at Walgreens right now. A 12 ounce bottle will only set you back $2.99.
