Product: HIP Studio Secrets Color Chrome Eyeliner

Here’s the thing, I LOATHE eyeliner pencils. They tug, they pull, and they almost never glide effortlessly. I’ve always preferred to line my eyes with shadow for these reasons. That being said, I’ve been obsessed with finding the perfect violet liner for almost my entire adult life. I believe I’ve finally found it, and it is in fact, a pencil liner. Vivid and long-wearing, HIP Color Chrome eyeliners neither tug nor pull. Violet Volt is a true-blue based violet, not plum. Fair skinned gals take note: You eyes will not looked bruised, I promise.

HIP Studio Secrets Color Chrome Eyeliner isn’t cheap. At $10 a pop, it is outrageously pricey for a drugstore eyeliner. It’s almost as pricey as the department store brands. BOGO is the way to go if you want one of these babies.

Product: Nourishing Eyeliner in Twighlight Blue

A funny thing occurred to me at Walgreen’s today. I’ve never purchased any makeup from the Neutrogena line. I guess I’ve never been very attracted to their offerings, because, in theory, I love the idea of a skin care line branching out into a cosmetics line. At any rate, Walgreen’s is promoting Neutrogena on BOGO this week, so I had the perfect excuse to indulge in some impulse buying. I picked up a Nourishing Eye Quad in Blue Smoke (to be reviewed later) and a Nourishing Eyeliner in Twighlight Blue.

First of all, let me stress how flattering a navy blue liner can be for brown eyed girls. It opens and brightens eyes and is as neutral as a brown or a black pencil. My liner of choice is actually an eyeshadow applied with an angled brush. The reason is because I am able to achieve a precise line for a fresh daytime look which can be deepened and smudged to take the look from day to night in seconds flat. The same can not be said of any pencil that I have ever tried, including this Neutrogena pencil. Although the shade is flattering, the pencil does not glide on smoothly, thus rendering the smudging tip necessary. The smudging tip is hard, and does not smudge softly at all. The pencil is worth keeping, though, (stashed in my makeup emergency kit) in my glove compartment.

Neutrogena Nourishing Eye pencils retail at Walgreens for about $8.50.
