fashion week

Berlin’s mayor once famously dubbed his city “poor but sexy”. That statement lends insight to another Berlin Fashion Week which again gives far more opportunities to the indie designer than say those of New York, London, Paris and Milan. In an environment that favors the needs of the local designers, BFW is not limited to a few big names who can afford the runway show spectacles. Buyers and press experience the local talent by visiting the many studios across the city that have opened their doors for Fashion Week, making the entire city part of the event.

Stay tuned for shots from both local and the more established as Berlin Fashion Week continues.

Reem Acra

Reem Acra focused on her fans for this collection. By opting out of a runway show during NYFW10 and choosing a video format, Acra was able to get the message directly to the consumer via the web.

“I have a much wider audience out there than the ones who can come and see a show,” Acra explained earlier this week at the video shoot. “I want my design statement to reach them as well.”

There remains to be a bit of controversy as more designers either opt out of the standard runway platform or as they bring high tech to the runway. In both cases, the consumer is getting closer and closer to this exclusive world that is NYFW.

Take a peek at the Reem Acra film here.

Tonight’s show…another one who doesn’t play by the rules, Pamela Ptak. We can’t wait!

Happy Friday to all!

Betsey’s inspiration for FW2010? Herself.
A plastic-pistol-toting Kelly Osbourne opened the show that featured bits from 45 years of pure Betsey.

Check out Ms Osbourne in the white suit below. Lovely.
