Pamela Ptak

Reem Acra

Reem Acra focused on her fans for this collection. By opting out of a runway show during NYFW10 and choosing a video format, Acra was able to get the message directly to the consumer via the web.

“I have a much wider audience out there than the ones who can come and see a show,” Acra explained earlier this week at the video shoot. “I want my design statement to reach them as well.”

There remains to be a bit of controversy as more designers either opt out of the standard runway platform or as they bring high tech to the runway. In both cases, the consumer is getting closer and closer to this exclusive world that is NYFW.

Take a peek at the Reem Acra film here.

‘Tis the season for checking our inbox with much enthusiasm to see what shows we’ll be attending and what new designer we’ll fall in love with this go-around. We’re feeling the infectious NYFW buzz that is radiating throughout the city.

It’s not the big names that tug at our calendars during Fashion Week. It’s the others. You know the ones. And if you don’t, you will soon. They’re the designers who are labeled by the industry as indie, up & coming, new, young, emerging and all the other synonyms of “not Calvin or Donna”. To us, they’re simply inspiring and we adore them season after season.

One new darling to catch the attention of the catwalk critics is Pamela Ptak. (we already have seats…yay!) Construction, construction, construction. A few others on our radar this season are Vena Cava (for some reason still in the “up & coming category”), Prabal Gurung, Alexander Berardi and Cushnie et Ochs.

Check back throughout NYFW to see our blurbs on all the “new ones” of NYFW. aka…the inspiring ones.

Fashion houses such as Rodarte and Jean Paul Gautier also featured tattoo inspired body art on their spring 2010 runways. more

Project Runway Returns to NYC ; Contestant Pamela Ptak is one of our faves…During Ptak’s audition, Runway design mentor Tim Gunn said her garments were the most beautifully constructed ones he had ever seen.

“I think you are on the cusp of something big,” he told her in this season’s casting session, which you can watch on Lifetime’s Web site. After a somewhat dismal first season on the women’s network, Runway’s second attempt, which brings the designers back to the Big Apple, seems to feature engaging designers who clearly are much more interesting to watch. more
