Berlin’s mayor once famously dubbed his city “poor but sexy”. That statement lends insight to another Berlin Fashion Week which again gives far more opportunities to the indie designer than say those of New York, London, Paris and Milan. In an environment that favors the needs of the local designers, BFW is not limited to a few big names who can afford the runway show spectacles. Buyers and press experience the local talent by visiting the many studios across the city that have opened their doors for Fashion Week, making the entire city part of the event.

Stay tuned for shots from both local and the more established as Berlin Fashion Week continues.

Did we just lose you?

We didn’t want to be left out, so we’ve jumped in with both feet and are officially in the mix with the it’s-a-new-year-let’s-make-a-list-frenzy.
We’ve narrowed it down to the best eight of our original 2,011. Feel free to add your own.

1. Sex and the City writer and producer Michael Patrick King is working on a new TV show. It’s scheduled to appear on CBS, and it’s called, Two Broke Girls, described as “a more realistic take on living in New York City.” Hmmmm…

2. The Jegging will bid farewell as the upcoming disco’d up 70′s move their way in…touches of miss-matched prints, boxy silhouettes, pajama inspired daywear and of course, the high-waisted flare will all make their mark. Just try to keep your men away from the white shoes, ladies.

3. The model of the moment, Andrej Pejic, has put the androgynous look back on the map for 2011. His long blond locks and soft features have been featured in campaigns/shows for John Galliano, Paul Smith, Marc Jacobs and Jean Paul Gaultier. The 19 year-old is sure to have a full show calendar come February.

4. Fourteen-year-old style blogger Tavi is teaming up with Jane Pratt, founding editor of Sassy and Jane, to launch a teen magazine.

5. Joe Fresh, the most fashionable and wallet-friendly clothing line ever to have sold at a Canadian grocery store is now opening up shop on Fifth Avenue. We’ll be following this one closely. Produce and little black dresses under one roof? Another hmmm…

6. THE dress of 2011 will be revealed. We can all rest our pretty little heads once Kate Middleton’s designer is officially announced, presumably at the moment she begins her much-anticipated walk down the aisle. In the meantime, we’ll speculate with the rest. Any bets on Ms Beckham?

7. The Oscar-filled suspense will also come to a close when we find out if the committee feels the way we do about Ms Portman’s role in Black Swan. We vote yay for Best Actress.

And finally….drumroll….

8. A sparkling new Twisted Knickers’ character is on the horizon. Stay tuned.
