thrift store

You can’t walk down any NYC street right now without being offered at least a 50% discount off the retail goods. It’s in the windows, the doors, on the mannequins; each shop trying to out-do their neighbor with a larger, brighter red sharpie. Well, most are a bit more sophisticated but you get the point. It’s time to shop! This week is dedicated to retail…

90% of what I wear is either 1) created by moi or 2) purchased at the local thrift store. I love, love, love me a good thrift store find. I’ve always done this but now more than ever I encourage others to give it a whirl.

I know there are some who wouldn’t be caught dead in a Salvation Army and then of course there are the germaphobes. Everything can be washed ladies!

One of the advantages of thrift store shopping (other than having something unique) are the ridiculously low prices. You’re most likely going to be adding things to your wardrobe you normally wouldn’t try. Case in point…

I would never buy this black sweater at retail but it was $2.50 (it was white tag day; 50% off!). The string of buttons on both collar and cuff are amazing. I will most definitely find a place for this to fit in my wardrobe.

Please try to look beyond the wrinkles. I haven’t dropped it at the dry cleaners yet. Purple velvet. Oh yeah!
